Within a year and a half of dating, my husband and I got married. It was relatively quick and by the time I got used to calling him my boyfriend, he was my husband. Anyone that knows me is aware I tend to mix-up sayings and idioms. I was at a doctor’s appointment this week and realized I had been calling Ty my “boyband” several times throughout the appointment. So, unfortunately for him, the nickname has stuck.
ANYWAY, so I’ve been trying to decorate our house. We promised we wouldn’t move in a buy a bunch of stuff that we don’t LOVE. So, I’ve been scouring design magazines and websites for ideas. It was getting to the point where I didn’t feel the effort was equalized…I mean, he does a lot of stuff around the house, but he’s not exactly being super proactive in the decorating department. We both work from home, so yesterday I “gave us the day off” and we went around Dallas looking for inspiration. I found this awesome place, Lu Lu B’s, and it was a SUCCESS! Kind of. I found some things I thought I couldn’t live without, and I also discovered that Ty is EXTREMELY opinionated about these sorts of things and the (literally) hours I’ve spent looking for things could have been easily reduced if I’d asked him his opinions first.
Now, I’ll show you things I found that I **loved** but my boyband vehemently vetoed. That’s not an exaggeration.
- This painted bamboo etagere was awesome and only $125 (although I’m fairly positive I could have gotten it for $90. Ty said it, “made him nauseous.” I thought it would be great as a bar area in our non-existent dining room. I may have painted it another color, but I wasn’t offended by the blue. It grew on me.
- Rugs- I have always loved Persian and Moroccan area rugs. It’s probably because my grandparents don’t have a single floor space that’s not covered by them. It turns out, these types of rugs (and all these quotes are not superfluous) “offend” Tyrone.
Here’s the kind I love:I’m finding these for around $300 to $400 on eBay, but even I get overwhelmed searching for these things. No one lists them correctly, so they aren’t categorized by size very well. I’m looking for at least an 8×10.
And after a compromise, here are the 3 we are deciding upon. This first white one is pretty great, but the white’s not ideal for high traffic areas.
He likes the gray and orange branch one. I can’t help but imagine that blue etagere from above.
I like the chevron one.
BUT I think we’ll settle on the last gray one. It’s pretty basic, a great price, and slightly larger than the other two.
PLEASE tell me which one you like the best or if you actually hate one of them. (I have a black and white striped one in our bedroom so I think the chevron one is too similar). They are ALL great prices. If you click on the links above, it should direct you to the eBay page which gives prices (which include free shipping!)
I have to pull the trigger on one today, so please help a girl out.
Lastly, we did end up agreeing on something! We liked this huge steamer trunk in which I plan on putting our linens (once I re-upholster with cheap canvas). We’ve found some much more interesting trunks before, but this one is still great. It was $75 and I offered $50 to the manager of the store and she accepted! I used to buy these for $50 and sell for $250 pretty easily, so if it doesn’t end up working out, I’ll just sell it!
Plans for the rest of the weekend:
- Choose a rug and purchase. I’ll need your help on this. Seriously. Please comment
- Order white cotton shower curtain (future project)
- Borrow chainsaw from our new friends Andrew and Sarah for table tree stump project.
- Wash my hair. Not part of the projects, but equally important.
- Buy some cotton canvas material for lining the new linen trunk.
